A Cozy Winter Stay at Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge
The Perfect Stowe Home Base
Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge
When planning a winter trip to Stowe, Vermont especially one centered around snowboarding, you want a place that’s more than just somewhere to sleep. You want a lodge that feels warm when you walk in with snow on your boots, comfortable enough to slow down in, and well-located so everything Stowe has to offer is within easy reach. Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge ended up being exactly that.
This stay marked the first stop on my Northeast Epic Pass tour, and the Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge couldn’t have been a better home base to start the trip.
First Impressions: Cozy, Welcoming & Thoughtfully Designed
From the moment we arrived, Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge had that relaxed mountain-lodge feel. Cozy without feeling dated, modern without losing character. Everything about the space felt intentional, from the warm common areas to the inviting rooms designed for winter travelers who are coming back cold and tired from the outdoors.
Our room was the perfect retreat at the end of each day:
Comfortable large beds that you sink right into
Plenty of space to stash snow gear
A fireplace that made snowy nights feel extra special ( one of my favorite things about this room )
It was the kind of room you actually look forward to returning to after a long day.
Day One: Snowboarding, Then Coming “Home” to the Lodge
We spent our first day snowboarding at Stowe Mountain Resort, soaking up the experience and enjoying being on the mountain. There’s nothing better than the experience of snowboarding on snow like that coming from a place like central Pennsylvania AND knowing we had a cozy lodge waiting for us made the experience even better.
After riding all day, coming back to Bluebird felt less like returning to a hotel and more like coming home. Warm showers, comfortable space, and the ability to truly unwind set the tone for the rest of the stay.
Day Two: Taking Full Advantage of Lodge Amenities
When the snow conditions weren’t ideal on day two, Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge really shined. Instead of forcing another mountain day, we leaned fully into everything the lodge had to offer and it turned out to be one of my favorite days of the trip.
We spent hours rotating between:
The sauna, perfect for easing sore legs
The hot tub, especially magical with winter air
The indoor pool, which felt like a luxury on a cold Vermont day
Having these amenities right on-site made it easy to slow down and actually enjoy a rest day without needing to go anywhere.
On-Site Bar & Après Energy
Another standout feature of Bluebird is the on-site bar, which quickly became a favorite spot. It was casual, comfortable, and exactly what you want after a day outside good drinks, easy conversation, and a laid-back atmosphere.
That evening, we also took part in the Subzero Surf Club outdoor event hosted at the lodge. Standing outside with snow falling, bundled up and sipping spiked hot cider, felt like a true winter-lodge experience and added such a fun, social element to the stay.
Location That Makes Exploring Easy
While the lodge itself was the highlight, its location made it incredibly easy to explore Stowe. Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge sits close to town and major attractions, making it simple to pop out and come back without hassle.
We used the lodge as our base while:
Visiting The Alchemist Brewery (where we may have had one too many Heady Toppers)
Heading to Von Trapp Brewing ( get the pretzel! )
Stopping at Stowe Cider, where we unexpectedly joined a line dancing lesson
That line dancing moment was such a fun surprise and instantly brought back memories of taking line dancing as an extra credit course in college proof that some skills really do stick.
Cozy Nights Back at the Lodge
One of my favorite memories from the stay was how the nights ended. After dinner at Piecasso (pizza to-go), we headed back to the lodge, turned on the fireplace, watched snow fall outside, and settled into bed with Netflix and pizza.
Those quiet, cozy moments are what truly make a winter lodge stay special and Bluebird nailed that feeling.
Why Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge Stands Out
Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge is more than a place to stay, it’s a place to experience winter in Stowe. Between the comfortable rooms, spa-style amenities, social spaces, and unbeatable location, it works perfectly whether you’re chasing powder or embracing a slower-paced getaway.
For anyone planning a Stowe trip especially skiers and snowboarders looking for a welcoming, cozy home base, this lodge is an easy recommendation.
Starting my Northeast Epic Pass tour here felt exactly right. The Bluebird Cady Hill Lodge set the tone for the entire trip, and I’d happily stay here again.
